Oracle Analyst / Developer
Applicant Tracking System (ATS) Comparison
.
The purpose of this was to: - Compare an internet advertised job description with my Microsoft Word CV. - Confirm that my CV was ATS compliant. - Produce a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet of the results. Each word in the job description was searched for in my CV along with a count of how many times it occurred. The results were output into a generated Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.
Oracle Analyst / Developer
Enigma Machine
.
The purpose of this was to produce my own version of the Enigma Machine. Background: The Enigma machine is a physical encryption and decryption device, resembling a typewriter, developed and used in the early to mid-20th century. The basic form consisted of 3 rotors with 26 values, the letters of the alphabet, on each rotor. Initially, the rotors are positioned in a pre-determined state. When each value to encrypt is selected: - Each rotor subsequently substitutes it for a different value. - The rotors shift in their relative positions ready for the next value to encrypt. So, for each value to encrypt, the number of possible outcomes is: (number of rotor values) ^ (number of rotors) = 26 ^ 3 = 26 x 26 x 26 = 17,576 Where ‘^’ means ‘raised to the power of. To decrypt an encrypted message the process is reversed.
Oracle Analyst / Developer
Data Comparison and Data Visualisation Generator
.
The purpose of this was to: - Compare two large data sets contained in pipe delimited text files. - Produce a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet of the results. The text files contained millions of lines of data. Group Codes (synthetic data) were counted in the first file and the second file. The results were compared and a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet was generated with the results in a number of worksheets. These contained: - Tabular forms of results. - Chart forms of results. - Conditional formatting. - Aggregates and calculations. - Distinct data and sorted data. - Column filters.

Oracle 12c, Toad, JIRA, Pro C / C++ , UNIX, LINUX, SQL Loader, WinSCP, Putty, SQL, SQL Plus, PL/SQL
As a Senior Oracle Developer, I facilitated the successful delivery of ELEXON’s Trans European Replacement Reserve Exchange TERRE Project. Operating within the Utilities sector, ELEXON administers the Balancing and Settlement Code BSC and provides and procures the services needed to implement it. They compare how much electricity generators and suppliers say they will produce or consume with actual volumes. They then work out the price for the difference and transfer funds which involves taking 1.25million meter readings every day and handling over £1.5 billion of their customers funds each year. Project TERRE implementation into the GB Market changed the BSC systems to facilitate the settlement of exchanged GB balancing Energy Products within TERRE. New data loaders were required to manage the Replacement Reserve RR Bids and Auction Results from National Grid. Settlement Reports were required for issue to relevant participants. My role as a Senior Oracle Developer included successfully: - Designing and developing a bespoke data comparison tool in Oracle. This was primarily used to perform intelligent comparisons between reports, each containing many millions of lines. Open-source products and UNIX ‘diff’ were unable to perform such comparisons with such large files. Analysis was done: by row; by column; by specific data items and in any order. It was fast, efficient, multi-file, multi-user, multi-instance, scalable and effective. - Developing the new data loader for the RR Bids. RR Bids data was: received in an XML file from National Grid; loaded into an Oracle database in XML format using legacy Pro*C; validated against an XSD schema; queried, validated and processed in XML format using the latest Oracle SQL and PL/SQL in the new Oracle database package. - Developing the new Settlement Administration Agent SAA Settlement Report for Virtual Lead Participants VLP.
